A: The American Optometric Association recommends a comprehensive eye exam every 1 to 2 years. However, individuals over 65 or those with certain medical conditions may need to be checked more frequently.
Q: What do those numbers on my eyeglass prescription mean?
A: Your eyeglass prescription contains all the information needed to place your corrective lenses into a pair of frames. It shows if you are nearsighted, farsighted or if you have astigmatism. It also indicates how much power is needed to correct your vision. Other information shows if the glasses are single vision, bifocals, trifocals, or no-line progressives.
Q: What do eye equations mean, such as 20/20 or 20/40?
A: The top number of the equation always represents the distance at which your vision was tested. The bottom number indicates the size of the smallest letter read at that given test distance. In simplest terms, a measurement of 20/40 means you can only see at 20 feet what someone with 20/20 vision can see at 40 feet.
Q: Can I wear contact lenses if I need bifocals or reading glasses?
A: Yes. Bifocal contact lenses continue to improve and work very well for most. Other options include monovision or wearing reading glasses over the contacts.
Q: Can I wear contact lenses if I have astigmatism?
A: Yes. Soft torics and rigid gas permeable contact lenses provide excellent vision for almost anyone with astigmatism.
Q: Can my glasses be made the same day?
A: Yes. Most single vision lenses can be made the same day. Higher powers, specialty lenses and features may take longer.

A: Tran Vision Center accepts numerous vision care plans. Most likely we work with one of yours. However, when making your appointment, please be prepared to provide the receptionist with your social security number and insurance plan number so that she may verify your complete benefits before your arrival.
